A craft rooted
in real places.

Conor Middleton is a metalworking artist based in the mountains of Western North Carolina. With more than five years devoted to the craft, he creates original copper artwork, from abstract wall pieces to bespoke decorative objects.

Conor began working with copper and slate through historic-building restoration in New England. His first artworks grew out of that work, made from copper scraps left over from restoration projects. What began with the material at hand developed into a body of original metalwork.

The architecture of Montreal, the slate roofs of New England, and the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains all inform his compositions. Geometric forms meet irregular textures; the warmth of polished copper meets the depth of chemical patinas.

The approach

Geometry gives it structure.
Patina gives it character.

Each work brings together cutting, forming, texturing, and individually developed chemical treatments. The resulting surfaces can be quiet and atmospheric or vivid and sharply defined.

A substantial body of Conor's original work now belongs to collectors across the United States, Canada, and Australia. New commissions continue the conversation between material, place, and personal meaning.
